Inlays/Onlays
Have you ever noticed dark,
unattractive old fillings that show when you smile or laugh? Porcelain Inlays
and Onlays are a simple painless solutions to help you create a beautiful smile.
Inlays and Onlays are high quality restorations made of porcelain,
extremely strong, long lasting and they help restore and protect the tooth
against further damage. An Inlay covers only one or two surfaces of the damaged
tooth and is used to restore a small amount of decay. An Onlay actually covers
more areas of the tooth, generating a wider area of restoration.
Almost
any unsightly silver or gold filling can be replaced with a beautiful porcelain
Inlay in just two visits. If you want to smile with confidence, inlays and
onlays are your esthetic and enduring choice!
Composites / Tooth Colored Fillings
Composites, also known as colored fillings, are
designed to match the natural appearance of your teeth. They are used to restore
a decayed tooth instead of mercury silver fillings that tend to darken the tooth
and leak over time. For example, once the decayed portion of the tooth is
removed, we will place several layers of the tooth-colored composite onto this
tooth to return it to a natural, beautiful shape.
Composite fillings,
like the fillings you are used to, are prepared and placed in just one visit. We
recommend using them and consider them the standard of care today; much like
mercury silver fillings were used in the past.
Diagnodent
Thanks to advanced technology, lasers can help detect unseen decay long
before other conventional mehods. Introducing the Diagnodent - a gentle and
completely safe procedure.
The Diagnodent uses a low-intensity laser to
locate hidden decay - much like a metal detector locates to metal object hidden
in the ground. Even very small cavities are detected at the earliest stage,
enabling us to preseve and protect more of your tooth substance. This
breakthough technology has been proven to be virtually 100% accurate. Your
hygienist will be discussing the benefits of using the Diagnodent during your
cleaning visit.
Oral Cancer Detection
Oral cancer is one of
the most deadly kinds of cancer claiming more lives each year than cervical or
skin cancer. Our practices conduct an oral cancer screening for all our new
patients. The oral exam is non-invasive, requires no anesthetic and takes just a
few minutes. A new process known as an oral brush biopsy allows us to easily
determine whether a questionable lesion is canerous. Results are known quickly
with an extraordinary high degree of accuracy. It's one less thing for you to
worry about and early detection could save your life.
Periodonatal Care
Periodontal disease or gum disease effects millions of Americans.
It is often a painless infection of the tissues surrounding and supporting the
teeth and is the largest cause of tooth loss in adults. Patients do not even
know they have periodontal disease. Since it can lead to serious complications
like tooth loss it is important that it is diagnosed and treated. Recent studies
also suggest possible relationships between periodontal infection and heart
disease, diabetes and increased coincidence of pre-term low birth weight babies.
Signs and symptoms of periodontal disease include bleeding, swollen or
tender gums, bad breath that doesn't go away, loose teeth, pus between your
teeth and gums, or a change in the way your teeth hit together.
We have
found the most effective and interceptive treatment is to perform scaling and
root planing (deep cleaning above and below the gum line) in conjunction with a
locally administered antibiotic treatment. Our offices utilize a new antibiotic
called Arestin that has been approved by the FDA. The Arestin therapy is fast,
easy and comfortable. One Arestin is applied, it releases the antibiotic
gradually for up to twenty-one days.
Sterilization
Before you
say "Ahhh" in the dentist's chair, do you ever wonder about those instruments
that are about to be placed in your mouth? Because of the risk of infection, we
maintain rigorous internal standards for every person in the office to disenfect
their hands between each patient and follow strict OSHA guidelines for
instrument sterilization.
Disposable gloves are worn by all personnel
when examining a patient and changed after each exam. When personnel leave the
room to check an x-ray, the gloves are replaced. Masks are always worn to
protect against airborne contaminates.
Behind the scenes many of the
products used in the offices go through independent sterilization procedures in
the packaging. In additon, any equipment that actually touches the patient has a
plastic sheath to ensure continued purity. This is true of the most advanced
dental supplies all the way down to the toothbrush you receive at the end of
your visit.
Our dental offices continue to stay informed of the latest
changes in sterilization techniques. If you have any questions, feel free to
call or e-mail us. We want to make sure you feel secure and comfortable when you
come in for your examination.
